The Kanpe Foundation

KANPE plays a catalytic role by bringing together Haitians, members of the diaspora, friends of Haiti, and partners on the ground to develop customized solutions to enable these families to escape the cycle of poverty and stand on their own. KANPE focuses on six pillars which enable autonomy: health & nutrition, education, agriculture, entrepreneur- ship, leadership, and local infrasctructure strengthening. These actions include: - Healthcare: setting up a first clinic in the area, offering free healthcare and free health education to more than 11,000 residents. - Education: covering school fees for the families enrolled in the Family Support program, and providing assistance for the renovation of school buildings. - Agriculture: helping farmers to boost food security, financial autonomy and environmental protection. Entrepreneurship: providing tools, training and support to help families gain autonomy through the creation of microbusinesses. Also, support for local organizations through: organizational development, organizational strengthening, basic accounting and management. - Leadership: developing local leadership by educating community members on how to envision solutions to the issues that directly concern them in areas such as the environment, agriculture, health, work and education. - Local Infrastructure strengthening: financial support for the maintenance and renovation of local buildings (the cholera treatment unit, the kitchen of the school canteen, a silo to store the crops...).
