WRA WILDLIFE RESCUE ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

Charitable Giving

Curator's Note

We all know that giving helps others but studies have shown that it can actually boost your physical and mental health. In fact, studies have reported lower blood pressure, reduced stress levels and a surge in our feel-good neurotransmitters when we give of ourselves to others. I guess there’s some scientific proof behind “the joy of giving."

Details

Thank you for choosing to learn about Wildlife Rescue Association of BC! We provide services and guidance for over 35,000 calls through our Support Centre and treats over 5,000 medical patients in our Wildlife Hospital each year, all free of charge. Operating since 1979, our mission is to rehabilitate and return to the wild, injured and orphaned animals whose natural lives have been impacted by human activities. The organization has admitted over 125,000 patients and more than 200 different species. The Hospital treats everything from hummingbirds and herons to bats and beavers. Thousands of animals are successfully kept in the wild through our programs available 365 days a year. This includes our helpline services, rapid assessment and release, wild animal fostering, rooftop nestling rescues, and educational programming. 85% of our patients are birds, 14% mammals, and the remainder reptiles and amphibians. The majority of animals come from the Metro Vancouver area, and the organization also treats animals from as far afield as Vancouver Island, Whistler, the Okanagan Valley, the Fraser Valley, northern BC, Alberta and the NWT. The hospital facility includes examination and isolation rooms, as well as an ever-expanding number of outdoor aviaries and pens to accommodate a variety of species. The rehabilitation team, which includes a consulting vet and veterinary technicians, is supported by 250 trained volunteers. As a non-profit charity, relies on the generosity of the public to sustain its mission. It is not government funded, over 85% of funding come from individual donations, corporate gifts and legacies. Your support makes it possible to continue providing exceptional care by giving wildlife a second chance to live their natural lives.
