Curator's Note

We all know that giving helps others but studies have shown that it can actually boost your physical and mental health. In fact, studies have reported lower blood pressure, reduced stress levels and a surge in our feel-good neurotransmitters when we give of ourselves to others. I guess there’s some scientific proof behind “the joy of giving."

Details

Indspire is an Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. Our vision is to enrich Canada through Indigenous education and by inspiring achievement. Indspire is led by Indigenous people for Indigenous people. We serve First Nation, Inuit, and Métis students in remote communities and urban centres across Canada. With the support of our funding partners, we disburse financial awards, deliver programs, and share resources with the goal of closing the gap in Indigenous education. In 2020-21, Indspire awarded over $20 million through 6,245 scholarships and bursaries to Indigenous students across Canada. How Indspire Supports Student Success: Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships and Awards Indspire provides financial support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis students across Canada to assist them in completing their post-secondary education. Since 2004, Indspire has distributed over 48,700 scholarships and bursaries, valued at over $151 million to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students across Canada. Indspire Awards Each year, we present the Indspire Awards, a nationally broadcast celebration of the successes achieved by Indigenous people. These positive role models are a source of inspiration for Indigenous youth. Soaring: Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering At gatherings held across Canada annually, high school students explore a myriad of career and post-secondary education options. They participate in career workshops, learn about financial support, and meet Canada’s top employers. National Gathering for Indigenous Education At this annual gathering for educators and others who work with Indigenous students to improve educational outcomes, attendees share promising practices and collaborate to translate theory into workable strategies. Rivers to Success: Indigenous Student Mentorship Rivers to Success provides resources and a strong support system to ensure the sustained success of Indigenous students as they graduate and go on to become the leaders of tomorrow. Connecting with these resources enables students to prioritize their own development, seek out exciting opportunities, and ultimately achieve success in their chosen fields – all while maintaining essential connections to their cultures and communities.
